Hold that Tiger! 35-year sentence
One of the most bizarre criminal cases in Rockdale history came to an end last week in 20th District Court when Judge Ed Magre sentenced 23-year-old Justin Tiger Thomas of Bryan to a 35-year prison term.
Thomas was convicted of the 2005 armed robbery of Gill’s Stop-N-Go in Rockdale.
He will have to serve at least half the 35- year sentence. Full Story

East Texans dominate Dewberry
Cameron natives Gerardo Moreno and Robert Smith left the prairies of Milam County for the pine forests of East Texas, but they came back in a big way Saturday.
Moreno won the inaugural 10K event at the 12th annual Dewberry Jam Fun Run, sponsored by Alpha Tau Delta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi which raised $5,000 for the sorority’s upgrade projects for Rockdale parks. Full Story

Playoff for playoffs Thursday at Cameron
Still fighting for their postseason lives, the Rockdale Lady Tigers will get one more chance to prove they are playoff worthy.
Despite falling to Caldwell Tuesday night 7-5 at Hornet Field, the two teams will turn around and face each other one more time Thursday in Cameron at 7 p.m. to decide who enters the state playoff bracket. Full Story

Weekend events successful due to area support
Wow, what a great weekend but oh so busy. Friday night was the fundraiser for Juvenile Myositis. Great job to Lindsay Cleveland for a job well done—she and her crew raised over $32,000 for the JM Foundation. And she couldn’t have done it without the help from Rockdale. Full Story
