Capital murder charges in shotgun slaying
Two Rockdale teens have been charged with capital murder after a 50-year-old woman was gunned down with a shotgun at her home near the San Gabriel area Monday afternoon.
Sheriff David Greene said the body of Sandra Phillips was found by her husband just before 4 p.m. at their home in the 7300 block of N FM 486.
Arrested later Monday were Tanner Baker, 18, and 19-year-old Brandon Cotton, both former students at Rockdale High School.
Both remain in the Milam County Jail with no bond set as of Tuesday afternoon.
Greene termed the incident a “home invasion” and said Mrs. Phillips was apparently shot shortly after opening her door.
Baker was arrested while driving Mrs. Phillips’ Ford Mustang at the Rockdale Cefco and Cotton about an hour later at Sunny Food Mart in Rockdale.
