Weekend events successful due to area support
Denice Doss

Wow, what a great weekend but oh so busy. Friday night was the fundraiser for Juvenile Myositis. Great job to Lindsay Cleveland for a job well done—she and her crew raised over $32,000 for the JM Foundation. And she couldn’t have done it without the help from Rockdale. Then, on Saturday the morning started early with the Dewberry Fun Run, as always very well run and a good group of runners. Thanks to Alpha Tau Delta for another great year.

The Easter Egg Hunt at Manor Oaks saw about 100 children come and hunt Easter eggs. The Silver Spurs Spring Jam at Apache Pass was a good event too and definitely something that will become an annual affair. Jerry Jeff Walker put on a great show out at the Pass. Then the Fireman’s Giveaway rounded off the night for a very busy weekend. Great things in Rockdale and more to come. But none of them could have been done without the great response from the community. That is what Rockdale does best—help each other.

HOLY WEEK–This week is Holy Week and there is a noon service at First Baptist Church. Come out for lunch, a brief devotion and good fellowship.

EDUCATION FORUM–We are working on an Education Forum to be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 25 at the RHS Auditorium. We are proud to have Thomas Ratliff, an elected official of the State Board of Education, to come and talk to us about education trends, what is going on with education and where we are going.

Terry Smith, executive director of Region 13, will also be there to talk about education issues and we will also have area superintendents on a panel. The topic will be education and what is going on with the funding, how the budget cuts will affect education and what we as citizens can do about the issues. This will be an informative time of hearing the speakers and being able to ask questions about the whole situation of education.

Until next time I leave you with this...You were born an original. Don’t die a copy.
