Hold that Tiger! 35-year sentence
One of the most bizarre criminal cases in Rockdale history came to an end last week in 20th District Court when Judge Ed Magre sentenced 23-year-old Justin Tiger Thomas of Bryan to a 35-year prison term.
Thomas was convicted of the 2005 armed robbery of Gill’s Stop-N-Go in Rockdale.
He will have to serve at least half the 35- year sentence. Full Story

RISD pre-K plan draws objections by business
‘Open enrollment’ tabled by trustees
Rockdale ISD school trustees delayed part of a plan to open up “for pay” pre-kindergarten slots for 4-year- olds Monday after hearing a day care owner maintain the move would hurt existing businesses.
Board members did approve changing the existing half-day pre-K program to full- day but delayed the “open enrollment” approach for further study. Full Story
Reporter wins fourth straight Sweepstakes
The Rockdale Reporter won its fourth consecutive Sweepstakes Award Friday at the annual South Texas Press Association convention in Port Aransas.
Sweepstakes awards are based on cumulative points from the competition’s 15 categories. The contest covered newspapers published during 2010. Full Story
