Benefit May 7 to help 2007 RHS grad

A benefit w ill be held Saturday, May 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Thorndale Fireman’s Hall to raise funds for Joseph Joh n son, 22, who ha s been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Stage II and has no medical insurance.

Joseph (Joey) is a 2007 Rockdale High School grad, along with his twin brother Joshua.

After graduating high school, he attended Blinn College, then transfered to Uvalde to major in Wildlife Management.

On March 17, 2011 a mass was found near his heart, which turned out to be cancer.

Johnson does not have medical insurance.

The benefit is being hosted by sister, Shelisa Johnson Lehman, a 2005 RHS grad, along with host of family and friends.

“Joey needs help w it h his medical expenses and liv ing expenses,” Lehmann said.

The schedule of events May 7 will include:

• Barbecue chicken plates, 2 sides, pickles, onion and tea for $7 each with serving to start at 11 a.m. and continue until sold out. Plates will be available togo or dine-in. Barbecue will be prepared by Joey’s family with help from Donny Marek.

• Silent Auction items available as well as chance tickets being sold.

An account has been set up for donations at Classic Bank- Rockdale.
