Yoe’s Rhoads, LHS’ Sherrill to play in all-star gridiron game

Cameron Yoe quarterback Jack Rhoades and Lexington linebacker Chance Sherrill, each helped lead their teams to respective state title games in 2010, have been selected for the Texas High School Coaches Association All- Star Football Game.

The honor was announced this week. The All-Star games will be held in conjunction with the THSCA Coaching School and Convention in Fort Worth July 24-271.

The All- Star Football game, now in its’ 77th year, will be played on July 26 at Cowboys Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The South team will be coached by Don Clayton of Cinco Ranch High School, and the North will be coached by Steve Warren of Abilene High School.

Rhoades and Sherrill will both be on the South Team.

This is the second consecutive year an area player has been selected for the prestigous squad. Milano’s Matthew Jentsch played in the 2010 all-star game.

The 67th All-Star Basketball game will be played on July 25 at TCU’s Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Tip off will be 7:30 p.m. Cleve Ryan of The Colony High School will be coaching the North team and Ronnie Courtney of Ft. Bend Bush High School will coach the South.

Tiger Booster golf tourney on May 7

Rockdale Tiger Booster Club will host its fourth annual golf tournament on Saturday, May 7 at the Rockdale Country Club. The one day tournament will include a crawfish boil.

Teams will be posted at 8 a.m. with the first tee off at 8:30. A sausage wrap lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Another tee off is set for 1 p.m. and the crawfish boil is set for 6 p.m. There is an $85 per person entry fee (which includes one meal ticket), additional meal tickets available for $20 each.

Players must be 18 years or older. Prize money awarded to the first three places. Hole sponsorships available for $100. Contact the RISD athletic office, 430-6150 for more information.

Thorndale banquet set for May 11 at Fire hall

THORNDALE–Thorndale Athletic Booster Club has anounced its annual athletic banquet for Wednesday, May 11, club reporter Marcylee Jones said.

The banquet will begin at 5 p.m. at the Thorndale Firemen’s Hall with a silent auction, followed by dinner and awards at 6. The event will recognize THS coaching staff and student athletes, Jones said.

Tickets can be purchased until May 3 at Rockdale Federal Credit Union-Thorndale, Sassy Up Salon, Thorndale City Hall, Downtown Cafe and the TISD administration office.

THS student athletes will be guests of the booster club, but all others must purchase tickets for the banquet. No tickets will be sold at the door, Jones said.

First annual alumni golf tournament set in July

The Rockdale Country Club Mens Golf Association is sponsoring the first annual Tiger Golf Team Alumni Tournament.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at the Rockdale Country Club and all proceeds w ill go to the RHS golf team.

There w ill be a team draw party on Friday, July 29 at 7 p.m.

The format is a four-person scramble and the cost is $60 per person and includes cart, green fees and lunch.

Entry deadline is July 22.

LC Express track club to hold early registration

LC Express Track Club will hold a meet and greet the volunteer coaching staff during early registration from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at Little Lamb’s Academy, 785 E. Independence Street in Giddings, spokesperson Eric Robinson said.

Early registration fee is $85 and late registration fee will be $95. Uniform cost is $75.

Practice will begin Monday, May 2 at Buffalo Stadium, Giddings from 5:30-6:45 p.m.

Deadline Monday for T’dale summer hoops

THORNDALE–The deadline is Monday, April 25 to sign up for the Thorndale girls summer basketball league for 2011. Entry fee is $45 per player and each team is responsible for their own jerseys.

Play dates w ill be May 26, June 2, 9, 16 and 23. There will be two games per night with 10 games total.

TISD summer sports camp dates announced

T HOR N DA L E– Dates have been announced for summer sports camps at Thorndale ISD. Dates and camps are: Girls and boys tennis, June 6-9; volleyball, June 6-9; girls and boys basketball, June 13-16; baseball and softball, June 20-23. Each camp cost $30. Thorndale Athletic Boosters fund-raiser

THORNDALE–Thorndale Athletics Boosters will host a softball fundraiser, parents/ coaches versus students at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 at the Thorndale baseball field.
