Thorndale cleanup day scheduled for Saturday

THOR NDA LE— Saturday is Thorndale’s annual cleanup day with IESI customers asked to have trash on the curb by 8 a. m. City officials said items put out after 8 a.m. will not be collected.

IESI will begin picking up a few bulky items on Friday and will return on Saturday.

• IESI crews will not pick up construction debris, dead animals, insecticides, pesticides, paint cans (unless empty and with lids removed), tires, used motor oil, oil filters, refrigerators or air conditioners without a download tag from a service company.

• City crews will pick up limbs and brush. Brush must be separated from other debris and there must be room to maneuver necessary equipment.

MDD to get updates on projects Thursday

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m . Thursday at City Hall.

Items on the agenda include a number of updates including the Hunters Chase Senior Housing Project, airport/industrial park, Rockdale Marketplace, welcome sign, Patterson Civic Center improvement project, YMCA and Operation First Impression.

The board will also discuss and act on training opportunities for the MDD board and staff.

Gary Griesbach, MDD chair, will present “MDD—Taking the Primary Job Creation Effort to a New Level.”

City Manager Kelvin Knauf will present a report on construction, connection and usage of the water and sewer line to the ATS site.

Gary Anton and Knauf will present a report on the new MDD budget.

Georgia Richards will be welcomed as the MDD board’s newest member. She was recently appointed by the city council.

Williams funeral fund raiser set for May 7th

A fund raising barbecue to help pay funeral expenses for AhKeem Williams, is set for May 7 in the City Hall parking lot.

Williams was one of the three young boys killed last year in a car-train intersection.

Deborah Craw ford, family spokesperson, said an outstanding balance is still owed on the funeral.

Serving May 7 begins at 11 a.m. and continues until sold out.

P&Z set to consider variances Thursday

The Rockdale Planning & Zoning board will consider three variances in connection with a planned residential storage building when it meets Thursday.

Meeting time is 3 p.m. at City Hall.

Fire calls listed for South Milam VFDs

Fire calls dispatched from the Rockdale Police Station during the past week were listed as follows:

• 1: 05 p. m. Fr iday, strong smell of wood burning, CR 454, Thorndale VFD.

• 9: 08 a. m. Sat urday, hay ba les on f ire, CR 234 L oop, Milano VFD.

• 2:48 p.m. Saturday, grass fire, Fifth and Baxter, Rockdale VFD.

• Rockdale VFD recalled to Fifth and Baxter, 9:11 p.m. Saturday.

CAPARO meeting set May at Alcoa Lake

T he C om mu n it y Adv i sor y Panel to Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations (CAPARO) will meet Monday, May 9, for an update from Alcoa.

CAPARO will gather from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Alcoa Lake Training Center.

CLG committee plans organizational meeting

The Certified Local Government CLG) committee will hold a organizational session at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Bit of History, according to chairperson Joy Graham.

Bit of History is located at 114 East Cameron (US 79) in downtown Rockdale.

“ The CLG committee functions under the Milam County Historical Commission and is subject to the Open Meetings Act,” she said.

Geri Burnett is Milam County Historical Commission chairperson.
