Helping each other works

This weekend was a busy time in Rockdale. There were people everywhere and business was good. The one thing I was so impressed with was the way the different businesses promoted each other. The hotels recommended the restaurants, the convenience stores suggested drivers and so on. We will get through the economic crunch and it will be because we are helping each other. We are resilient, we care about each other and we will thrive and prosper.

This is Music Week so look for the schedule and go out and hear some of the great music all around town. I got to perform at the local banks this week and it was fun.

We have two ribbon cuttings this week. The first is the Nic- Nac Shack, opening in the old Shrimps location, with the ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4. Virginia Manning, owner, has a wonderful selection of new and used items, clothing, furniture, art prints and much more.

Then on Thursday, May 5 Michelle Lehmkuhl will have her ribbon cutting for her law offices at 4 p.m. at her new location on Josie Lane. Come out and visit these two new businesses and help them celebrate their success.

On Friday, May 6 Rockdale Welding Supply will have a celebration of their one year anniversary at their location on FM 487 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will have doorprizes, music, food and drinks and a 10 percent discount on purchases. Come out and help them celebrate.

As the day gets closer for yet another milestone for my baby girl I am reminded again of what a blessing children are. She graduates from Texas State in a few weeks and she is truly focused and moving forward in the direction she has planned. She received an internship towards her registered dietician status, to start in the fall.

This is the next step towards becoming an adult and her dad and I are so proud. I am blessed by she and her boyfriend, Phillip, who is also graduating in a few weeks and will begin work in Ft. Worth this summer. Isn’t it great to see your kids grow up and do well?

Until next time I leave you with this...Change your thoughts from, “what’s in it for me?” to “how can I help?”. This is one of the keys to success.
