MILAM COUNTY T.R.I.A.D.
The World Financial Group of the United K ingdom sent the unexpected windfall but the number given indicates it is from the United States.
The enclosed check was supposedly from the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas drawn on the Regions Bank.
Don Whiteley knew it was a scam and he turned it over to Milam County TRIAD. Don hopes that this notice will keep others from losing any of their hard earned money.
The letter announces Don as the winner of the “American/ UK family publishing sweepstakes drawing/”
It explains further that the sweepstakes was organized for all customers of participating retail stores in the U. S. and U. K . like Wa lmar t, K roger, Sears, Har vest Food, Home Depot, Best Buy, Office Depot, Safeway, K-Mart, and Target.
The letter goes into detail regarding the winning ticket with the winning numbers listed.
Total amount of money won is $250.000 in the form of a certified check which will be delivered by their special carrier company.
To get this certified check you must call Shaun Davis, Monday through Saturday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
(These crooks do not operate on Sunday. Do you suppose they are in church?)
Then you are prompted to contact either Edna Jones or Monica Smith. Jones and Smith are among the most common of American names.
Don, in this case was to have paid $4,150 or $ 600.00 less than the amount on the check which is interesting.
MCT contacted Crowne Plaza Hotel to alert them of the letter received in Milano.
The hotel was aware of the scam and ask that no one act on it. This scam started two months ago and the hotel has had several calls regarding it.
An employee explained that t he hotel’s account number had been used in their payroll account and said that Kroger has had complaints as well.
They are investigating the crime and ask if copies of the let ter, check, a nd envelope could be sent. Don gave permission to do that and it was done.
MCT was established for Milam County senior citizens and the members are sharing information to protect others.
We are truly thankful for that.
