Rockdale Junior High w ill host the annual Scholastic book fair through Friday, May 6 in the school library. This year’s theme is “Peace, Love, Books– Get Groovy with a Good Book”, spokesperson Pat Elliott said.
The public is invited to attend this celebration of books and reading. The Fair will have books specifically selected to appeal to middle school students. There will also be books available for adults and younger children, Elliott said.
Book fair hours for the remainder of the week are 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday, May 6.
A family night wil be held from 4- 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5. There will be contests, prizes, and more, Elliott said.
Fair attendees can also help build classroom libraries by purchasing books for teachers through the Classroom Wish List program.

Whiteside to get degree from Prairie View A&M
PR A IR IE V IEW— Ca ndace Lynn Whiteside will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Prairie View A&M University during their May 2011 Commencement ceremony.
Whiteside will graduate with a grade point average of 3.00. She was the president of Pre Optometry for Professional Students (POPS) and also a member of Beta Kappa Chi and Beta Beta Beta honor societies.
Whiteside was a two year member of the Lady Panther track team. She also volunteered with several community and charitable organizations.
She is the daughter of A. J. and Lynn Whiteside. Her grandparents are Billy Ray and Laura L ock lin of Rockdale and Albert and Berry Whiteside of Cameron.
Whiteside is a 2007 graduate of Rockdale High School. She is pursuing a career in optometry.
RHS driver’s education classes offered
Rockdale High School w ill offer a driver education class during the summer.
Students will attend classroom only from 9-11 a.m. on the following dates: June 6-9. Studetns must go to the DPS office for permit test before July 11.
Students will attend classroom and lab phase from 7:30-11:30 a. m. on the follow ing dates: July 11-15, July 18-22 and July 25-26.
Fee for t he class is $ 365 . Online registration if available. When registering online, you must pay the full amount of $365 with a credit card.

• Birth certificate–original or certified copy or valid passport with supporting documentation Permanent Resident Card Texas Identification Card;
• Enrollment verification (available from high school office student attends);

• Social Security Card–not a copy.

Band banquet next week
Dates for the Rockdale ISD band banquet and spring concert have been set.
The banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the Rockdale Junior High commons. Tickets are available from director Adrian Acevedo for $9 each.
The band program’s spring concert will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19 in the RHS auditorium.
RJH recycling program
Rockdale Junior High students have began t he “ Rec ycle for Generations” program at the school, accordi ng to teacher Rebecca Geletka.
“We are accepting empty inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges and old cell phones from home, work or school,” Geletka said. “Items may be dropped off for recycling at the junior high office.”
Other items being collected include digital cameras, DVDs, video games/consoles.
