Elementary principal leaving (for now)
Faulkner confirmed to The Reporter this week that she is submitting her resignation as principal to the school board.
“I don’t plan to leave the district, though,” she said. “There’s going to be a vacancy in another position and I’m planning to apply for that.”
“There are some health issues in my family and this will give me more time to spend with them,” Faukner said. “It’s just an opportunity too good to pass up.”
Faulkner has had a 34-year career in the Rockdale ISD and was assistant principal at the elementary before taking the principal job two years ago.
“I started in 1977 as a third-grade teacher,” she said.
She has also taught special education, content mastery and in the gifted and talented program.
“I don’t plan to retire just yet,” she said.
When she steps down as principal will be determined by the school board.
“My contract runs through the end of June but the timing will all be up to the board,” Faulkner said. “I’m not sure when they will take up my resignation or when the other position will be filled.”
Next school board meeting is 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 16, in the Central Administration Building.
