The largest crowds ever reported in Milam County left local merchants “rave”-ing about their economic boost Friday and Saturday as music fans swarmed into Rockdale and Apache Pass.
Nocturnal’s second annual techno-music glitter and glitz drew back-to-back estimated crowds of 15,000 each night for a festival total of 30,000. Full Story

Appraisal values drop in county, Rockdale ISD
Luminant figures still only estimates
It’s not shaping up to be a good budget preparation year for the Rockdale ISD or Milam County.
Preliminary net taxable values were certified Monday by the Milam County Appraisal District and Chief Appraiser Pat Moraw listed substantial decreases for the school district and the county as a whole. Full Story
Life sentence for shooting at deputy
A 31-year- old Hearne man, accused of firing point-blank at Milam County Chief Deputy Chris White during a 2009 encounter, was given a life sentence last Wednesday by a 20th District Court Jury.
Prosecutor Kerry Spears said Jejuan Shauntel Cooks was found guilty of aggravated assault of a public servant with a deadly weapon after “less than 30 minutes” of deliberation. Full Story
Early voting continues for May 14th elections
Early voting is under way for the May 14 city and school elections in Rockdale with 76 votes cast Monday and Tuesday.
There were 36 votes cast in the city elections and 40 for the Rockdale ISD board of trustees.
Both city and school early voting is at City Hall.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for Wednesday and Thursay when hours will be extended to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Full Story
