Former pastor recalls couple, murder victim

Dear editor,

On Tuesday, I took Saphronia to a local restaurant for our wedding anniversary.

Over the dining room is a sign that reads, “Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.” The restaurant is noted for its pies.

The sign took on a bittersweet significance as I thought of recent deaths in the Rockdale area.

Dan and Dorothy Jenkins were very dear to me. And four years ago, Sandy Phillips and her husband Michael flew a T-6 Texan with me over San Antonio.

Sandy worked for Saphronia at the nursing home. She and Michael were such sweet people. Just like Dan and Dorothy.

My hear t aches for Milam County at this time.

Maybe they ought to post that sign about eating dessert first in every Rockdale restaurant.

You just never know.
