Relay raises $30,000 for cancer fight
The ninth annual Relay for Life raised about $30,000 for cancer research and education overnight Friday at the Cameron Junior- High track.
This year’s event, renamed Relay For Life of Milam County, was the first one hosted by Cameron. Previous events were held in Rockdale. Full Story

Anthropology prof renovating South Milam landmark
MILANO–In rural areas, sometimes landmarks become icons and so is the case with the “old rock house” off Texas 36 about two miles south of Milano. Dr. Donny Hamilton, head of the Anthropology department at Texas A&M University, has taken on a “labor of love” to restore the 120-year-old home site, starting with the locally famous two-story house. AUSTIN—The Scottish-influenced Roy Kizer Golf Course is not for the faint of heart and the rolling hills take some getting used to.
The Rockdale golf team certainly adjusted well and improved its score, but couldn’t move up as the Tigers placed seventh at the UIL Class 3A state tournament at the par- 71, 5,329-yard link-style Kizer Thursday and Friday. Full Story

Double digit decline for Rockdale
Milam check 15% less than May 2010
AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced last week the state’s sales revenue in April was $1.87 billion, up 11.4 percent compared to April 2010. In Milam County though, things are not looking so bright.
The City of Rockdale, along with the rest of the towns in Milam County are down in rebate money compared to the amounts received in May 2010. Full Story
