Last week I had the extreme pleasure of speaking to the seven first grade classes of Rockdale Elementary. I got to talk about the importance of community and what it means to us all. Being involved in our community is the best way to be happy in a small town. We may not have all of the shopping opportunities of a larger town but we do have the camaraderie that only comes from knowing our neighbors. So I will tell you what I told the first graders—we have a great town and we are indeed fortunate to live in Rockdale.
Although it seems like Ashli, my youngest, just started college four years have passed and she graduated this past weekend from Texas State University. The family gathered to support her and we all couldn’t have been prouder. We also went to Phillip’s graduation (her boyfriend). Phillip’s mother, Sharon and I were so proud of both of our children as we cried, laughed and celebrated their achievements. Our children are such wonderful parts of our life. As Ashli begins this new chapter of her life I love the fact that she is a wonderful adult who is ready to conquer the world. Congratulations to you all who have graduates this year in high school and college.
The Tourism Committee is working hard to bring great events to Rockdale. A new event that is being worked on is an Outdoor Expo to be held Sept. 23-24. This will be a big event and will be held at Apache Pass. Some of the activities for the days include a barebecue cookoff, a Civil War re-enactment, displays and exhibits of numerous activities such as fly fishing, hunting, etc., vendor spaces, to name a few. This will be a great weekend and we are working on the details now. Look for the announcement of the expo and if you’d like to get involved let us know.
Until next time I leave you with this...we are blessed by our children, no matter what path they take. They will make mistakes and have successes. We will be with them every step of the way, just as God intended.
