Spring concert Thursday

The annual Rockdale Big Blue Band spring concert and awards presentation will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19 in the RHS auditorium, band director Adrian Acevedo announced.

Retiring Weed, Streck to be honored May 24

A retirement reception honoring Jeanie Weed and Jaime Streck will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 in the Rockdale High School cafeteria, principal Joey Geletka said.

Weed is the RHS nurse and Streck an English Language Arts teacher.

Odom earns A&M PhD

COLLEGE STATION–Summer Rachelle Felton Odom received her doctorate degree in Human Resource Development from Texas A& M University on May 14.

Odom is a 1995 graduate of Thor nda le High School and received her bachelor of science degree in food science and technology in 1999 and her master of science degree in agricultural education in 2001, both from Texas A&M.

She is currently on the faculty at Texas A& M and advises in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications.

Her family includes husband Len Odom, parents Barton and Marcie Felton, brother Trey Felton, grandparents Marvin and Millie Rodenbeck, Frank Felton, Janell Felton and great grandmother Frances Hilton.

RHS driver’s education classes offered

Rockdale High School w ill offer a driver education class during the summer.

Students will attend classroom only from 9-11 a.m. on the following dates: June 6-9. Studetns must go to the DPS office for permit test before July 11.

Students will attend classroom and lab phase from 7:30-11:30 a. m. on the follow ing dates: July 11-15, July 18-22 and July 25-26.

Fee for t he class is $ 365 . Online registration if available. When registering online, you must pay the full amount of $365 with a credit card.

For online registration go towww.esc6.net( ESC6web page). Click on the Driver’s Ed icon in upper right hand corner. Select session #127288. Click on register and complete the information requested. Pay by credit card.

For onsite registration, please see Gloria Thomas in the high school office May 16-27. Payment can be made with a check or money order at that time, no cash.

Students should br ing the following items on the first day of class:

• Birth certificate–original or certified copy or valid passport with supporting documentation Permanent Resident Card Texas Identification Card;

• Enrollment verification (available from high school office student attends);

• DPS application completed in black ink and notarized in black ink. Applications are available at www.esc6.net, click on “Programs and Services”, click on “ Driver Education”, print forms DL14A and DL40;

• Social Security Card–not a copy.

• $16 fee for DPS permit.

RJH recycling program

Rockdale Junior High students have began the “Recycle for Generations” program at the school, according to teacher Rebecca Geletka.

“We are accepting empty inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges and old cell phones from home, work or school,” Geletka said. “Items may be dropped off for recycling at the junior high office.”

Other items being collected include digital cameras, DVDs, video games/consoles.
