Stranded motorists praise Milam trooper

Dear editor,

On May 2, my husband and I were traveling home after a long day of driving.

Suddenly, there was a noise of a tire deflating and the car began fishtailing. Maneuvering the car to the shoulder, we came to a stop along a stretch of US 77 near to the Rockdale area.

I had only reached to turn on the flashers when I saw a Highway Patrol vehicle about a block away from our position.

The trooper wheeled around, parked behind us and had his jack and tire tool in his hand by the time we were basically out of our car.

Trooper Mark Berry was so kind and considerate. He completely changed our tire (which was very difficult as the 14-month old tires had been put on with a power wrench) and replaced the damaged one into the trunk for us as well.

My husband is less than a year away from having a cancerous kidney removed, and I do not believe either of us would have been able to have changed the tire ourselves.

I cannot express loudly enough how truly grateful we are for Trooper Berry’s aid and good nature. He is a gentleman who is a genuine asset to his profession.

Your area is very blessed to have such a dedicated individual patrolling your by-ways. We wanted to share our good feeling about Trooper Berry with your reading public.

Good deeds and news is very important to share. Many thanks again to Trooper Berry for helping us.

Sincerely,

Diann and Sylvester Walleck
