Milano Opry to celebrate two years

Milano Opry will celebrate its second anniversary during its monthly show set for Saturday, May 21 at the Milano High School cafetorium. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7. Admission is $7 with children 10 and under free. Concessions will be served including barbecue sandwiches, sausage wraps, chicken salad sandwiches, along with the group’s famous homemade pies by the slice.

Musical headliners this month are Paula Fleming, Paul Schlesinger and Bobby Mikulin. House band members are Billy Barnett, Ab Woods, Michael Wall, Robert Lawhon, Gary Beard, Will Fountain, Hannah Fountain and Lynn Martin. A presentation of the Opry’s first scholarship will be given away during half time.

Congratulations to the Eagles baseball team who are now in the regional quarterfinals after big wins over the weekend. They will play Mart in a three game series starting at 6 p.m. Thursday and 5 p.m. Friday at Waco Veterans Memor ial baseball fields. It is across the street from the Waco Texas Christian field where the Eagles have played football a couple of seasons ago. Good luck to the baseball team this weekend.

Enjoyed attending the Milano sports banquet on May 12 at the high school and hearing speaker R.C. Slocum. Congratulations to all the award winners.

Relay For Life “Team Tammy” was in Cameron for the annual walk on Friday night. The group raised $3,855 for the American Cancer Society and were named the night’s “Most Spirited Team”. “ Team Tammy: Fight Like a Girl” shirts are on sale for $15 at Smokin’ Oak BBQ in Milano. Baccalaureate ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at the high school. High school graduation is set for 8 p.m. Friday, May 27 on the football field. Eighth grade graduation is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26 in the high school cafeteria.

Elementary school award ceremonies w ill star t at 9 a. m. Wednesday, May 25.

Don’t forget live and silent auctions items are needed for the second annual Kristi’s Krusaders “Rally for the Walk...Walk MS 2011”. The fund-raiser is scheduled for Saturday, June 25 at Nat’s in Milano. I’ve run this information a lot, but the group is not getting much response. Please, any little item or donation is appreciated.
