Memorial Day is Monday and it’s also on May 30. Not terribly long ago it was observed on May 30 every year, then it was changed to the last Monday in May to accommodate a “four day weekend.”

Hal Holbrook, the actor who became famous playing Mark Twain, is an Arkansas native, so he got away with saying this:
“When the world ends, I want to be in Arkansas. They won’t know about it for 10 years.”

Milano owes name to post office scribble
Milano was created as rail lines were built east to west across Texas.
Its original name was Milam, in honor of Ben Milam. When the application for a post office was sent in it was poorly written and when approved, the name came back Milano. Full Story

Rockdale residents asked Milam County commissioners to place a new iron bridge on the San Gabriel River at the Kolb Crossing, six miles downstream from the Cameron crossing location preferred in a 500- signature petition from the San Gabriel-Thorndale area. Full Story

Rockdale-area couple foils Jamaican scam

Hubert Caywood and wife, Wanda, have received calls from a con artist giving the name Jim Kingston for months now.
It is an understatement to say that con artists are tenacious, cunning and persistent.
Broken bones sent both Hubert and wife Wanda to a hospital then to a nursing home for rehabilitation. Full Story
