Awards Night ceremony Thursday at high school

Scholarships and other awards will flow Thursday evening in the RHS Auditorium as Rockdale High School hosts its annual Awards Night program.

The program begins at 7 p.m.

Subject awards will be presented and honor students will be recognized.

Milano commencement Friday at football field

MIL A NO —The 33- member Milano High School class of 2011 will hold commencement exercises at 8 p.m. Friday at Pruett Field, according to principal Greg Decker.

Speeches by valedictorian Allison Dodd and salutatorian Taryn Love are on the program, as well as awarding of scholarships.

Municipal Development District meets Thursday

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

MDD members will hear repor ts on ongoing projects, discuss and act on a project to provide shade structures at the city pool and hold a joint meeting with the Planning & Zoning Commission.

Other agenda items include a report on the PTS school closing and extension of a wastewater line to the industrial park site.

Rockdale Homecoming ahead on June 12th

Rockdale’s 77th annual homecoming is set for Sunday, June 12, at the Patterson Civic Center.

Jud it h Slu sher, Ro c kd a le Homecoming Association president, said activities begin at 9:30 a.m. with exhibits and visiting.

A catered lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Price is $10 and there will be no pre-sale of tickets.

Honors class will be the 50- year RHS Class of 1961.

There will be displays of memorabilia both days at the I& GN Depot Museum and the K ay Theatre will also be open.

Big Blue Band reunion June 11th at Patterson

The second annual Big Blue Band Reunion is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, for the Patterson Civic Center, according to Jim Perry, former director.

Perry and former directors Bill Grusendorf and Don Thoede plan to attend.

The first reunion, held last August, drew a crowd estimated at 450.

“ The reunion gets under way at 1 p.m. and continues until ‘whenever’,” Perry said.

Perry said donations will be accepted to cover the $425 cost of renting the venue. A concession stand will be open, staffed by the Matinee Musical Club.

‘First Impression’ group to meet on Wednesday

Rockdale’s Operation First Impression Task Force will meet at 5 p. m. Wednesday at Cit y Hall.

The task force is charged with finding ways to improve the first impression of visitors and residents as they enter the community.

Red Cross Bloodmobile sets June 14th visit

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Educational Building from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14.

Blood donors are automatically entered in a sweepstakes drawing for an all-expenses paid trip for two to Nashville.

MCT Camelot auditions scheduled next week

CAMERON—Milam Community Theater will hold auditions for the musical “Camelot” at 7 p. m. Tuesday and Wednesday, May 31 and June 1 at the Performing Arts Center on the C.H. Yoe High School Campus in Cameron., according to Richard Stone, spokesman.

The show will open July 30 at 7:30 at the PAC with additional performances July 31 at 2 p.m., Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 7 at 2 p.m.

The script calls for a cast of eight men, two women and a large chorus.
