After being uanble to find a coach and being forced to miss the 2010 season, Rockdale will field a 7-on-7 squad this summer.

Former Tiger standout and local businessman Greg Brinkley will guide the team this year.

Brinkley’s son Ethan was the starting quarterback for the Tigers last season.

While the tournament season kicked off Saturday, the Tigers have been playing in a league in Lexington for the past few weeks.

And now that track is over, all-state running back and Oklahoma pledge Daniel Brooks will join the team. Brooks is the only Tiger with previous 7-on-7 experience.

In Lexington, the Tigers fell to Cameron 34-20, Lago Vista 62-20 and Navasota 31-27.

Cody Skubal led the Tigers with three touchdowns in the tournament, while Brooks, Clayton Gibbs and James David accounted for two apiece.

Zach Garza and Stephen Ehler also scored.

On defense, David, Garza and Gibbs also picked off passes.

In the 12-year history of the 7-on-7 competition, Rockdale has made three straight trips to the state tournament and four overall since 2005.
