Milano scholarships total over $121,000

Reporter/Marie Bakken MIL A NO— Graduates were awarded $121,480 in scholarships and awards at Milano High School commencement ceremonies held at Pruitt Field on Friday night.

The 33-member Class of 2011 heard speeches from valedictorian Allison Dodd and salutatorian Taryn Love and were presented their diplomas by board trustee president Margaret Plentl.

Scholarships awarded to graduates included:

University of Incarnate Word Distinguished Scholar award— Wynton Thomason ($32,000).

University of Incarnate Word Scholarship—Wynton Thomason ($18,980).

Blinn College Academic & Grant Scholarship—Brittany Bullock ($11,000), Travis Marsh ($5,500).

Luminant Scholarship—Chase Ellison, Fabian Trujillo ($10,000 each).

Texas A&M Valedictorian—Allison Dodd ($5,300).

Blinn College Trustee Schola rship—Stephanie Philpott ($3,500).

Oleta Modesett Wise Memorial— Alexis Melton, Brittany Bullock ($1,500 each); Wynton Thomason ($500).

Becky Dent Memorial—Taryn Love ($1,000).

Milam Count y Communit y Foundation—Brittany Bullock, Carolyn Grosshans ($1,000 each).

Milano Alumni Association/ Charlie Martin Memorial—Reginald Carr, Travis Marsh, Thomas Sanders ($1,000 each).

Addie Belle Swenson Memorial— Alton Bryant ($1,000).

Edrie Wilson Browder Memorial— Alton Bryant ($1,000).

Milano Opry—Wynton Thomason ($1,000).

Milano Band—Carolyn Grosshans ($1,000).

Milano Evening Lions Club —Brittany Bullock ($1,000).

Milano Masonic Lodge 605— Allison Dodd, Terry Gelner, Taryn Love, Stephanie Philpott, Masey Turnage ($1,000 each).

United Steel Workers Local 1822—Fabian Trujillo ($500).

Geneva Paceley Memorial— Taryn Love, Blaine Plentl ($500 each).

Sandy Creek Church of Christ— Taryn Love, Blaine Plentl ($500 each).
