RHS summer band schedule released


SOLO MEDALS– On Saturday, Rockdale High School band members Heather Vargas and Tyler King competed at the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Hendrickson High School. Vargas received a Division 1 (superior) rating for her flute performance and received a gold medal. King received a Division 2 (excellent) rating and a silver medal for his French horn performance. Both were accompanied on piano by Lisa Loewe. Both were accompanied on piano by Lisa Loewe. Information about Rockdale High School’s “Big Blue Band” summer schedule has been released by director Adrian Acevedo.

The full band will practice from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 6-8 then break until late July.

Freshman, the band leadership team, color guard and drum line will hold drills from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 28-29. The full band will join them Aug. 1-5 and 8-12.

Sectional will also be held Aug. 1- 5 and 8-12 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Brass and woodwinds are set for 12:30-1:30, followed by color guard and drum line from 1:30-2:30.

The band will also practice Aug. 15-16 with full band from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and sectionals from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Full band practice is also scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 17-19.

During practices, band members need to bring instruments and supplies (valve oil, reeds, etc.); music flip-folder and lyre; ball cap, sunglasses (if desired), lightcolored clothing, low-top tennis shoes (no sandals), sunscreen and water.

At 6 p.m. on Aug. 12 there will be a parent meeting, followed by a preview of the band’s fall show.

“During this meeting, we will be discussing expectations, goals, band handbook, band contract, permission forms, UIL acknowledgement forms and answering any questions students and parents may have,” Acevedo said.
