Yoe, Leps one step from state

The Cameron Yoemen and LaGrange Leopards are both just one step away from making an appearance at the UIL state tournament in baseball.

Trailing in the series 1-0, No. 5 Cameron (32-6) handled Bishop 4-2, 14- 0 in the doubleheader in San Antonio and will battle Weimar in the Class 2A regional finals at Brenham’s Fireman’s Park beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. for a chance to go to state.

Game 2 will begin Saturday at 2 p.m., with a third game to follow if necessary.

Cameron trailed in the first game and were down to its final five outs before eventually tying the game and surging ahead.

The Yoemen last made the regional finals in 2006. Weimar was a regional finalist in 2010.

LaGrange (26-7) demolished Diboll 10-0 and 23-0 and will face No. 2 ranked Robinson (29-5) in the Class 3A regional finals.

The state tournament is June 8-9 at Disch-Falk Field.
