No Jubilee Days planned for 2011 in Rockdale
No Jubilee Days celebration is planned for Rockdale this summer.
Leroy Stephens, spokesman for the Rockdale Roping & Cutting Club, which has sponsored the annual event for decades, told The Reporter on Tuesday nothing is planned for 2011.
Jubilee Days has featured a rodeo and carnival at Fair Park and, in past years, opened with a large trail riders parade.
Other Jubilee Days events were held throughout the decades.
“ There a re ju st too ma ny other summer rodeos competing with ours,” Stephens said.
Jubilee Days has had declining attendance in recent years and organizers had moved the dates around in an attempt to find a more opportune time.
Stephens said the roping club continues to hold barrel racing events on the third Thursday of each month at its Fair Park arena
Next barrel racing event will be at 6 p.m. June 16.
City water line flushing scheduled June 15th
The City of Rockdale will perform its monthly water line f lushing after midnight June 15, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.
He reminded resident s to run taps until the stream clears upon arising the next morning to flush any remaining sediment from the lines.
‘Brown Santa’ golf fund-raiser ahead
The Milam County Sheriff’s Department will hold a fundraising golf tourney for its Brown Santa program, July 23 at the Cameron Country Club, according to Deputy John Mendoza.
Brown Santa is the department’s Christmas-time program which distributes toys to needy children.
Entry fee will be $ 50 per player and includes sausage wraps and a chance to win door prizes, he said.
“Anyone can play. You don’t have to have a team made up in order to sign up,” he said.
Format will be a five-person scramble, he said.
Trophies w ill be award for the first three places, Mendoza said.
