RFA livestock show ahead this weekend

The Rockdale Fair Association will host its first of two springsummer steer and heifer shows at Fair Park this weekend.

James Birkhead, RFA president, said animals will arrive Friday and there will be ring action “pretty much all day” Saturday and Sunday.

“ We have a couple of these shows every spring and early summer to raise some money for the Fair Association,” Birkhead said.

Another show is planned for June 25-26, he said.

First ‘communication’ meeting in Thorndale

THOR NDALE— Communit y leaders will host the first in a series of “community communication” meetings at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, in the Thorndale Chamber of Commerce community room.

“These meetings are an effort to keep citizens better informed, as well as to give them an opportunity to ask questions and give input on city, school and county affairs,” County Judge Dave Barkemeyer said.

In addition to Barkemeyer, those present will include: Bill Simank, Thorndale mayor; Casey Callahan, TISD superintendent; Jeff Muegge, Precinct 4 commissioner; and Gary Northcott, Precinct 4 JP.

“Each will give a short update covering their areas of responsibility and then the sessions will be open for questions and input,” Barkemeyer said.

RISD budget workshop scheduled for Monday

Rockdale ISD trustees w ill gather in a 2011-12 budget workshop at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Central Administration Building, according to Supt. Dr. Howell Wright.

The board cannot take action in a workshop session.

Democrat executive committee to gather

CAMERON—The executive committee of the Milam County Democratic Party will meet at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Democratic Party Headquarters in Cameron, chairman R ichard Stone said.

Agenda items include the SD 5 Caucus in Madisonville and plans for a Dan Kubiak appreciation day in the fall.

“All local Democrats are invited to our meetings,” Stone said.

Planning meeting for Democratic Women

CA MERON— A meeting to explore the possibilities of establishing a local chapter of the Texas Democratic Women will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at party headquarters.

“We had about a dozen attend our first meeting,” said Mary Ridgway, who is heading up the effort. “Purpose of the group is to network and to work toward building a grassroots plan so that Democrats can have positive state and local outcomes in 2012.”

TxDOT work on 908 scheduled Thursday

The Texas Department of Transportation ( TxDOT) will perform levelling work on FM 908 between US 79 and FM 486 on Thursday, according to Bobby Colwell, spokesman.

“There will be a pilot car and flaggers,” he said.

Alcoa retirees to meet Thursday at KC Hall

Alcoa retirees will meet Thursday, June 9, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, according to Lanell Spence, spokesperson.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and a catered fish meal will be served for $8 per plate. Persons with last names starting with A-L should bring a dessert.

“ The meeting will include a silent auction so bring an item if you choose,” she said.
