Mount Zion Baptist homecoming Sunday; Richardson speaker

Mount Zion Baptist Church, FM 1712, will celebrate it’s annual Homecoming service Sunday, June 12 when guest speaker will be Danny Richardson from Jefferson. His father, Bro. Albert Richardson, was pastor at Mount Zion in the late 1950s and early ‘60s.

“Danny Richardson works for the Jefferson Independent School District as the DAEP director and is an active member of his church in Jefferson,” said Bro. Luther Shelander, Mount Zion pastor.

Sunday School will be at 9:45 a.m. with the worship service at 11 a.m. A pot-luck meal will follow in the fellowship hall. “All are welcome to join us Sunday as we celebrate,” Bro. Shelander said. For more information call 446-3903.

Mount Zion V BS—Vacation Bible School at Mount Zion Baptist will be held June 20-24. Theme is the “Big Apple Adventure— Where Faith and Life Connect.” Verse for the week will be Romans 10:17, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”

Hours for VBS will be 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Family Night will be Friday evening. Children and youth are welcome from first grade through high school. Primera Iglesia Bautista sets VBS for June 21-24

Primera Iglesia Bautista, 665 North Main Street in Rockdale, invites all children ages Pre-K through sixth grade to Vacation Bible School from 6 until 8:30 p.m. June 21-24.

Theme is “Club VBS: Beach Blast.” Each evening will start with a worship rally, and then the children will “surf through adventure-filled Bible stories, create beach crafts, have beach snacks and surf into creative recreation,” a spokesperson said.

‘Books and Balls’ drive continues here for youth

Rising Star Baptist Church continues a “Books and Balls” drive, an initiative in line with the White House “Let’s Read, Let’s Move” initiative to fight childhood obesity and summer learning loss, Rev. Royal Johnson, pastor, said.

Rising Star is accepting donations of inspirational books and balls for children of the Rockdale area. “Please drop off donations Tuesdays or Wednesdays between 6 and 8 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.,” Rev. Johnson said. Those who need someone to pick up their donations can call Stephanie Washington, 512- 429- 0519, Kenny Dennis, 512- 968-2271, or any Rising Star member.

‘Youth Explosion’ ahead Saturday at junior-high

Rising Star Baptist Church will hold a “Youth Explosion” at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 11 in the Rockdale Junior-High Commons.

‘Summer Explosion’ set June 18 at Meadowbrook

Meadowbrook Baptist Church will host a “Summer Explosion” Saturday, June 18, Rev. Rick Hertless, pastor, announced.

“ There will be an auto and cycle show, live entertainment, food, horse rides by Redemption Riders, inf latables and lots of activities,” he said.

Hours will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. “Everyone is invited to join in the fun,” Rev. Hertless said.

Master Peace Quartet at Marlow BC June 26

CAMERON— Scott Williams and Master Peace Quartet will be in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26 at Marlow Baptist Church near Cameron.

The church is located at 1794 CR 229, four miles outside of Cameron. “The concert will feature Southern Gospel music at its best and everyone is welcome,” a church spokesman said. The concert is free and a free-will offering will be taken.

Women’s Bible study continues each Sunday

Holy Family picnic set Sunday at Lexington

LEXINGTON—Holy Family Catholic Church will hold its 2nd annual picnic Sunday, June 12 on the church grounds, 1027 FM 696 East. The public is invited. Johnny Speier said barbecue will be served at 11 a.m. followed by a live auction, kids games, a “Holy Cow Plop” and other activities.

Aglow Lighthouse will meet here on Thursday

Aglow Community Lighthouse will meet Thursday, June 9 for fellowship and refreshments at 6:30 p.m. and speaker at 7 p.m. at Rockdale General Store, 1201 W. US 79.

Guest speaker will be Robin Durham, Heart of Texas Area president of Aglow International. Sabrina Thompson, Aglow vicepresident, said the speaker is “prophetically-gifted as a leader, intercessor and teacher.”

“As a military wife,” Thompson said, “Robin has lived in seven states and two nations, allowing opportunities for ministry in many settings as well as her own Christian TV program.” The public is invited.

Men’s breakfast June 14 at Meadowbrook church

Next monthly second-Tuesday ecumenical community men’s fellowship breakfast will be 7 to 8 a.m. June 14 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church fellowship hall.

Purpose is Christian fellowship. Breakfasts rotate between several local churches and all men of the Rockdale area are invited.
