100 -degrees early in 2011; more on way

It’s way too hot, way too early, even for Central Texas.

Five readings of 100 or greater were recorded over the past week in Rockdale, including back-toback highs of 104 Sunday and Monday.

The mercury climbed to 100 Tuesday on the U. S. Weather Service thermometer at KRXTFM and it was also an even 100 on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday’s (June 2) century mark was 57 days earlier than the first 100-degree reading of 2010, which was recorded July 29.

More highs of 100 were forecast later in the week. Some are forecasting a summer as hot as in 2009 when a record 62 days with highs 100 or greater were recorded in Rockdale.
