Snap Fitness, owned by Wayne Vinson of Columbus, is forecasting an August opening in the building being vacated by Comfort AC, 734 West Cameron (US 79).

The 24/7 fitness center will feature “state-of-the-art workout machines, personal training, massages and group exercise sessions,” Vinson said.

Vinson already owns a Snap franchise in El Campo. “This one in Rockdale will be bigger,” he said. “We’ll have about 4,800 square feet. The El Campo facility is 4,000.”

MOVIE GALLERY—Vinson gives Comfort AC owner Cody Caldwell the credit for making his Rockdale venture possible.

“I was looking into places which had vacant Movie Gallery buildings,” Vinson said.

Caldwell’s next door business neighbor, Marie Williams State Farm Insurance, has moved to Taylor and that opened the door for things to fall into place.

Caldwell is moving into the former State Farm building, allowing him to lease most of the Comfort AC building to Vinson.

“It’s almost like this was meant

ENTRY CARDS—“This is the former Western Auto building and most of it was a showroom, so it’s easy to reconfigure,” Caldwell said.

Vinson said the main, 3,000- square-foot area will include training machines.

“ We’ll have cardio (heart health) equipment, workout bikes, treadmills and elliptical workout machines,” he said.

And members will be able to use them any time of the day or night in air- conditioned comfort.

“You’ll get a card which will unlock the door, which will then stay locked, of course,” Vinson said. “It’s sort of like the doors at motels and hotels.”

Snap Fitness will be staffed dur ing business hours. “ We haven’t decided on the exact hours,” Vinson said. “But in El Campo our hours are 9 to 7 Monday through Thursday and 9 to 3 Friday and Saturday.

CLASSES—Vinson and wife Delores plan to move to Rockdale and operate the facility.

“I know about Alcoa and the economic climate of Rockdale,” Vinson said. “I believe this facility will work here and we’re looking forward to showing everyone what we can offer.”

“I believe this business model is perfect for Rockdale,” Caldwell said.

In addition to the main exercise room, Snap Fitness w ill offer a 800 to 1,000-foot area for classes. There will also be a 500-square-foot office area.

Comfort AC is keeping a storage warehouse behind the building.
