Thorndale BBQ cookoff ahead this weekend

THORNDALE—The 21st annual Thorndale Firemen’s BBQ Cookoff is set for Thursday through Sunday at Thorndale City Park.

A softball tourney unreels Friday through Sunday.

BBQ cookoff categories are brisket, pork ribs and chicken, plus Jackpot Beans and Cook’s Choice. A new jackpot category will be a Margarita contest Friday night.

Saturday features the barbecue cookoff, an arts and crafts fair, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Thorndale VFD Ladies Auxiliary turkey and dressing meal at 11 a.m. in Fireman’s Hall.

Saturday also offers horseshoe, washer and domino tournaments, games for the kids, food booths, music and opening ceremonies presenting Miss Thorndale and her court.

There will be dances at the City Park Pavilion: Friday, 8 p.m. to midnight, People’s Choice; Saturday, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., Chris Brade. Tickets will be $10 at the gate for all (ages 5 and under free). Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
