10-MILE FIRE—

It may have been a record for the longest fire ever in the Rockdale area when seven volunteer fire departments battled a grass and brush blaze that extended for more than 10 miles along US 77 Friday evening. The call came in at 6:33 p.m. of blazes stretching from south of the FM 908 intersection past Tanglewood in Lee County. Volunteer fire departments from Rockdale, Cameron, Minerva, Tanglewood, Lexington, Milano and Alcoa responded along with the Milam County Sheriff’s Department. Source of the fire was traced to a dilapidated trailer being pulled along the highway and a charge of criminal mischief was filed.
