‘Pray for Rain, county says

Milam County commissioners on Monday unanimously approved a weekend of countywide prayer for rain Thursday through Sunday.

The request was presented by Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Andy Isaacs of Milano, whose jurisdiction includes much of Rockdale.

Isaacs said he wrote the proclamation based on a similar declaration by Gov. Rick Perry in April.

The proclamation calls for residents to “pray in whatever way they see fit” and cites the following points:

• Milam County is in the midst of an exceptional drouth with most of the county not receiving significant rain for more than a year.

• A combination of higher than normal temperatures, low precipitation, low relative humidity and high wind has caused extreme fire danger.

• Conditions have caused agricultural crops to fall, lakes and reservoir levels to fall and dry and up, cattle and livestock to struggle under intense stress, imposing a tremendous financial and physical toil.
