MDD board okays new budget
The Rockdale Municipal Development District board approved its 2011-2012 budget in a special session Tuesday afternoon at City Hall.
Budget estimate is that about $230,000 will be collected by the MDD in sales taxes over the 12 month period beginning Oct. 1. and ending Sept. 30, 2012.
That sales tax sum was going to support Richards Memorial Hospital until area voters decided in 2010 to allocate the funds to an MDD, which was created in the same election.
Majority of the funds, $ 119,000, are earmarked for capital improvements.
The budget allocates fund for several projects now being pursued by the MDD, $20,000 for airport improvements, $25,000 for civic center improvements and $35,000 for site improvements for new or existing businesses.
A lso, $ 25,000 is allocated for a site study in connection with efforts to bring a YMCA to Rockdale.
The budget includes $25,000 for a business recruitment service, something MDD members discussed at their regular session on Thursday.
Board presdent Gary Griesbach said the professional rercruitment service would provide the “face to face, one-on-one” contact needed to recruit new businesses or industries, with the resultant jobs, to Rockdale.
