Biffy Cook Biffy Cook Cook was part of first state tournament team

Biffy Cook, 63, who died June 21, was an intregal part of Rockdale’s very first state basketball tournament team in 1966.

The 6-foot-2 junior was a starter on the most unlikely state tournament team, which featured just one senior and had two sophomores in the starting lineup.

Cook’s greatest effort came in the Tigers’ 62-54 win over Livingston in the regional semifinals. He led the team with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

When Rockdale reached the state tournament, Cook was one of five Tigers that were fighting off the flu, leaving them shorthanded and with a loss to defending state champion Fort Worth Lake Worth which went on to defend its title.

“They were excellent kids and good workers,” Vincent said in an interview in 2006. “They really did a good job. I was so proud of them.”
