Movie night screens July 25 at historic Howard Theatre

Animated film is for 4-Hers of all ages

Ca ll now so you don’t miss out on 4-H Movie Night.

4- Hers, parents, leaders and their invited guests are welcome to reserve a seat for 4-H Movie Night on July 25. A private movie showing of Gnomeo and Juliet will be at the Howard Theatre in Taylor at 6:30 p.m. This is a great movie for all age 4-Hers.

The movie night is limited to 200 persons, so call the Milam County Extension Office 254- 697-7045 to reserve your spot and then send in your $10 per person fee. The fee covers the movie, popcorn and a drink.

4-Hers are welcome to invite non 4-Hers, parents, leaders etc. to join them for movie night. If all seats are sold for Movie Night, $2,000 will be raised for our 4-H Council. This money will pay 4-Her and leader experiences for state and national contests.

The private party night was donated to Milam County 4-H by Neal and Yaminie Bhakta, owners of the Budget Hotel in Cameron. A big “thank you” to the Bhakta’s for their generous donation.

4-H R AFFLE–Members are selling raff le tickets for their annual fund-raiser. There are lots of great gift certificates and prizes. The money raised by the raff le tickets assists 4-Hers and leaders as they participate in district and state activities as well as helping pay for 4-H opportunities offered in the county program.

The 4-H club that sells the most tickets will have their representatives named the Mr. and Miss 4-H, while the club with the second highest ticket sales will have their representatives named the 4-H Prince and Princess. Buy your tickets from any 4-Her or at the Milam County Extension Office. Tickets are $5 a piece or five tickets for $20.

L EF T OF F–Thor nda le 4- H Club member Devin Fisher received first place with his senior Wildlife and Fisheries recordbook at the county judging. His names mistakenly got left off the list in last week’s column.

4- H ARTISTS GET TO WORK–Now that the winning slogan is selected, “Milam County 4-H: Green and Growing” by Jacob Pedroza, it is time for the 4- Hers to start submitting drawings for the 2011-12 Milam County 4-H Calendar/Handbook. Use the slogan or draw a picture showing your interests in 4-H. Drawings can be submitted to the extension office from now until Sept. 15.

Submit your drawings on plain white paper (8 1/2 x 11). Pencil or colored pictures will be accepted, but remember that most pictures are printed in black and white for the calendar, so make sure your picture will copy. The calendar handout will be published and distributed on Oct. 2 at our annual celebration. The first, second and third place draw ings w ill receive money prizes at the celebration.

ROCKDALE FAIR–Important ownership and tag-in dates for the 2011 Fair are as follows:

Saturday, July 9–Lambs, swine and goats tag-in will be at Rockdale Fair Park from 7-9 a.m.

Sept. 14–Rabbits tag-in will be at Home Demonstration Building from 5-7 p.m.

Entries for the Market Show will be due at each individual tag-in or pick-up at a cost of a $15 fee per entry.

MCJLS & MAJOR SHOW TUR K EYS–The deadline to order turkeys for the major shows (Houston Livestock Show, San A ntonio Livestock Show and Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo) and Milam County Livestock Show is Friday, July 8.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
