Vidrine-Cates wed in Caldwell


Mr. and Mrs. William Elliot Cates Mr. and Mrs. William Elliot Cates Katherine Elizabeth Vidrine and William Elliot Cates were united in marriage at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011. The ceremony was held at Double Creek Crossing in Caldwell and was officiated by Rev. Gunar Gerthe of Rockdale.

All music for the ceremony was performed by Adam Vidrine, brother of the bride, on either acoustic or electric guitar. “Love Song” by Tesla was played for the bridal processional. Other songs included “There Are No Words” by Andy Timmons, “Over the Hills and Far Away” by Led Zeppelin, “Rylynn” by Andy McKee and the recessional was “Pride and Joy” by Stevie Ray Vaughan.

The bride is the daughter of Michael and Wanda Vidrine of College Station. She is the granddaughter of Dorothy Vidrine of Port Arthur and the late Uell Vidrine, and the late Norman and Delphine Falksen.

The groom is the son of Ernie and Marilyn Cates of Rockdale. He is the grandson of Mardell Cates of Rockdale, the late Ernest Cates, and David and Yvonne Yount of Rockdale.

The bride and her bridal party were honored at a brunch held at the home of the bride’s mother in College Station on the morning of the wedding.

On Friday evening, the parents of the groom hosted a barbecue dinner held at the Dragonf ly Pavilion in Caldwell.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a Maggie Sottero strapless bordeaux taffeta gown with embellished lace motifs featuring Swarovski crystals and carried a bouquet of cymbidium orchids and orange roses.

Casey Fitzpatrick of Tomball and Alexa Zimmerman of Waxahachie, both friends of the bride, served as maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Schwegman of Spring, Ashley Ordener and Megan Kahn, both of Houston, Lana Durant of College Station, Sofia Arizaga of Fort Worth, and Mehgan Defrance of Wichita Falls.

Members of the house party were Laura Foran, Angela Kelm, Cindy Cates, Marlis Davidson and Lisa Supak.

Ernie Cates III and Eddie Cates, bot h brot hers of t he groom, served the groom as best men. Groomsmen included Jerad Alexander, Cale Hammett, Joel Holden, Colt Pounders and Josh Jackson, all of Rockdale, and Jason Starnes of Houston.

Flower girls were Sable Davis and Azilee Leita, both cousins of the groom. Ring bearer was Eli Hill, also cousin of the groom.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception, dinner and dance under the pavilion at Double Creek Crossing.

K at ie is a 2004 graduate of Rockdale High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in 2008 in psychology and her master’s degree from Texas A&M in 2009 in human resource management.

Elliot is a 2002 graduate of Rockdale High School and a 2006 graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial distribution.

Following a honeymoon to Hawaii, the couple resides in College Station.
