Okay, so what kind of band aids are in your cabinet?

You know you’re a mother or grandmother (or both) when you get a personal boo-boo and the only band aids to be found in the house are a choice between Sponge Bob Squarepants or Star Wars.

You will be happy to know that Richards Memorial Hospital Auxiliary members are compiling a Rockdale Community Cookbook and they want your recipes—or those of your Aunt Fanny or Grandma Jones.

They even want stories about these recipes that explain why this example is a favorite recipe of your family. Former Rockdale residents are also invited to submit favorites.

The book will be ready for 2011 Christmas giving and/or stocking stuffers which will certainly come in handy during that holiday season.

So, send your recipes to Eric Weinrich, Richards Memorial Hospital, 1700 Brazos, Rockdale T X 76567 or email to

So, start looking through your recipe collection and send them in soon so you won’t be left out.

This one from Barbara Valek would be a good one for holiday time or it’s especially fitting for these hot, hot days—no baking! And you know it’s too hot to bake.

This is yummy and lighttasting, not too sweet and heavy, but just right.

Lemon Icebox Pie

9” graham cracker crust 2 (8 oz.) packages cream cheese, softened

1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

4-5 tablespoons lemon juice

1 teaspoon lemon zest (or more if you like it really tart)

In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Add condensed milk, lemon juice and rind. Mix until smooth.

Pour mixture into crust and refrigerate at least two hours or overnight before serving.

Garnish with whipped cream or lemon slices or both.
