Assisted living winding down in hospital wing

The assisted living wing at R ichards Memor ial Hospital is down to its final three residents.

Rockdale Hospital District directors, meeting Monday in regular session at RMH, heard Gail Crawford, assisted living director, report the facility has been working with residents and their families to make the transition period easier.

The assisted living w ing is being shut down as a cost-saving measure by the hospital district as Richards Memorial continues its recovery from 2010’s financial difficulties.

‘Shoes for school’ now accepting donations

Meadowbrook Baptist Church will distribute shoes for needy school children Aug. 5.

Anyone wanting to donate, or needing shoes for the 2011- 12 school year may contact the church at 512-760-5623 or 512- 446-3367.

VFW, auxiliary to collect for school supplies

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6512 and its auxiliary are collecting for school supplies to be distributed at a date to be announced later.

Anyone interested in donating may call Joyce Hurt at 512-966- 7761.

Reception to honor Chamber president

A reception honoring Denice Doss, who is leaving her post as Rockdale Chamber of Commerce manager at the end of this month, is set for 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Rockdale Workforce Center.

Doss became Chamber president in 2000 and has served in that role for 11 years.

Monthly city flushing ahead Wednesday

The Cit y of Rockda le w ill perform its monthly water line flushing maintenance overnight Wednesday, July 13, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.

Water lines in all sections of Rockdale will be flushed, Knauf said.

“Please run your cold water taps before arising the next morning until the stream runs clear,” Knauf said.
