Mortgage assistance meeting cancelled

A session to assist home owners who are late on their mortgage payments, originally set for 6 p.m. Monday, July 16, at the Rockdale Workforce Center, was cancelled.

“ We were advised Saturday that the meeting would not be held,” Cindy Jerman, Workforce Center director, said. “We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

“Anyone who is interested in the program may call 1-254-752- 1647 or log onto www.nw-waco.org immediately as the deadline to apply for this federal program is Friday, July 22,” she said.

Post-Alcoa strategy report due Aug. 2nd

Theor y Into Practice ( TIP) Strategies Inc. will report on its year-long study of post-Alcoa Rockdale and Milam County Aug. 6.

Cindy Jerman, director of the Texas Workforce Center, said the report will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 6 at the center, located in the One-Stop Center, Bell at Main.

“Recommendations w ill be made for major economic development projects for our community after research, evaluations and town meetings,” she said.

Area firefighters answer South Milam calls

Fire calls dispatched from the Rockdale Police Station over the past week included:

• 4:41 p.m. Thursday, Rockdale, Thorndale, Cameron, Bartlett, Taylor and Buckholts VFDs responded to a large wildfire on County Road 418, west of San Gabriel.

• 2:38 p.m. Monday, Thorndale VFD responded to broken power line which caused a fire and blocked a roadway.

‘Shoes for school’ now accepting donations

Meadowbrook Baptist Church will distribute shoes for needy school children Aug. 5.

GMA 12 to hear protests during Monday meeting

MILANO—Groundwater Management Area (GMA) 12 directors will hear objections from a conservation group and water entrepreneurs to its long-range waterplansina1p.m.Monday, meeting in the Milano Community and Civic Center.

Rockdale ISD trustees to discuss rankings

School trustees in the Rockda le ISD w ill receive a pre - liminary report on the upcoming TEA accountability ratings when they meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Central Administration Building.

Also on the agenda is action to sell a house at 852 Bushdale Road which is ow ned by the school district.

Food pantry monthly visit set Thursday

The monthly surplus food distribution from the Capital Area Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry is set for 9 a.m. Thursday at the KC Hall.

“Since the distribution relies totally on volunteer help, volunteers will be needed and greatly appreciated,” Denise Sifuentes, spokesperson, said.

Thorndale ISD sets tax rate public hearing

THORNDALE—School trustees in Thorndale, meeting Monday in regular session, scheduled a 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15 public hearing to discuss the 2011-12 budget and tax rate.

Location is the TISD board room.

In other business Monday, trustees set cafeteria prices for 2011-12, continued to work on the budget and discussed the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST).

Thanksgiving dinner planning meeting set

A meeting to plan the Nov. 19 annual Community Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner is set for 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at New Hope Baptist Church.

New Hope hosts the annual meal, which last year ser ved 1,025 persons.

City committees set Thursday sessions

Two City of Rockdale entities will meet Thursday at City Hall.

Kelvin Knauf, city manager, said the Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 3 p.m. followed by the City Park Board at 5 p.m.
