‘Brown Santa’ golf event is Saturday

The Milam County Sheriff’s Department’s Brown Santa Golf Tourney is Saturday at the Cameron Country Club.

Deputy John Mendoza said shotgun start tee times for the four-person scramble are at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Brown Santa is the department’s Christmastime program which distributes toys to low-income families. “One hundred percent of proceeds and donations will go to Brown Santa,” Mendoza said.

Entry fee will be $50 per player and includes green fees a goody bag and snacks, he said.

Golfers may RSVP to Mendoza at 254-627-1270 with team and cart information. Private carts are welcome.

100s string ends but new one starts

A high temperature of “only” 99 Saturday stopped July’s string of consecutive 100-degree days at 15.

It was back up to 102 on Sunday and highs the next two days also topped the century mark.

Temperatures are recorded on U. S. Weather Service equipment at the KRXT-FM station.
