Two-a-days sneaking up on Tiger football

Austin Eastside first opponent on the schedule

While this is only mid-July, there are a couple of important dates that potential Tiger football players need to keep in mind.

Equipment will be issued at the field house on Monday, Aug. 1, beginning at 7 a.m. sharp.

That will be followed by the first day of practice which is set to begin at 8 a.m. and continue until noon.

Beginning the next day, Tuesday,

Aug. 2, practice will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. until noon.

The practice of Aug. 6 will mark the Tigers’ first practice in full pads.

While the opening day of the regular season is Friday, Aug. 26, when the Tigers travel to House Park in Austin to take on Eastside Memorial for the 7:30 kickoff, Rockdale has a couple of scrimmages set up before then.

The Tigers go to Elgin on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. for their first scrimmage and then on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. will host a three-way scrimmage with Robinson and Lexington.

The annual “Meet the Tigers” social and cake auction will take place Monday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. in Tiger Gymnasium.

Volleyball is set to start on Aug. 1 as well.

All participants must bring their own T-shirt and shorts for the first few days.

Workouts will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. and 11 to 1 p.m. This schedule will continue through Aug. 6.

Third-year coach Jason Williams encourages everyone to arrive 15 minutes early.

A high school volleyball parents meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. at the high school gym.

The Lady Tigers will scrimmage on Aug. 6 against Luling and then open the season by traveling to Granger on Tuesday, Aug.9fora5p.m.match.

A volleyball camp will be held July 26-28 from 9 a.m. to noon and then 1 to 4 p.m. in the new high school gym. The cost for the camp is $75 and must be turned in by July 21.

Medical forms

If you are going to participate in Rockdale High School football, volleyball or cross-country this coming school year in grades 9- 12, you must have all the required UIL and RISD medical forms turned in to the athletic office by Wednesday, July 28.

Students going into grades 9 and 11 must have a new physical examination and the four page “yellow form” packet.

Students going into the 10th and 12th grades only need to complete the “yellow form” packet if they already have a physical exam on-file from last year.

These medical forms may be picked up from the RISD athletic office on Murray at Tiger Stadium.

Junior high football and volleyball athletes need their medical forms turned-in by Wednesday, Aug. 17.

New 7th grade athletes will need both the physical exam and the “yellow form” packet, while returning 8th grade athletes only need the “yellow form” packet.

RHS athletes other than football, volleyball or cross country need their medical forms turnedin the first week of school.

Tickets

Advanced reserved seat football tickets for previous season ticket holders will be sold at the athletic office on Aug. 2-4 and Aug. 9-11 from 9 a.m. to noon.

If you would like to be placed on the waiting list for tickets, please call the athletic office at 430-6150 between 8 a.m. and noon.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 22, anyone else wanting to purchase reserve seat season tickets may do so in the athletic office from 8 a.m. to noon.

The cost of season tickets will be $24 for four home games.

Press Day

According to head coach Jeff Miller, picture day/press day for RHS football and athletic trainers has been set for Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at 8 a.m. at Tiger Field.

Mom and sons picture will also be taken.

Volleyball pictures will be taken the same day at 8 a.m. in RHS Gymnasium.

Hall of Honor

The newest class of the Rockdale Sports Hall of Honor will be recognized on Oct. 28 during the halftime of the Giddings game.

It will include members of the 1976 state championship football and 1977 state champion track team.

Booster Club

It is not too late to have your business advertise in the 2011 football program.

Letter jackets have been received and can be picked up at the athletic office from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday through Thursday.
