TOTALLY TALLEY—As part of the select all-star team Texas Blaze Kirk, Rockdale’s Faith Talley made an impact at last week’s Pony Softball Nationals held at Settler’s park in Round Rock. Talley, 14, who will be a freshman this upcoming school year, went 12-for-18 (.666) in the tournament including this three-run home run in the Blaze’s 11-4 victory over Corpus Christi. A utility player, Talley also doubled in the game and had five runs batted in. Her homer was the lone long ball in her age group in the entire tournament. The Blaze went 9-2 and finished fifth out of 21 teams in the tournament. Rockdale Junior High football and volleyball players can begin picking up their equipment on Friday, Aug. 12 with practices to begin on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Football equipment will be issued on Friday, Aug. 12 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. for eighth graders, while the seventh graders can receive their equipment from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Junior high players may purchase their own football cleats, but they must be black.

Practices begin Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 7 to 8:50 a.m. for seventh graders and at 2:51 to 4:40 p.m. for eighth graders.

Volleyball equipment will also be handed out on Friday, Aug. 12 for the eighth graders from 8 to 9 a.m. and the seventh graders from 9 to 10 a.m.

Practices begin Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Seventh graders w ill practice from 6:45 to 8:50 a.m. and eighth graders from 3:40 to 5 p.m.

All athletes must have physicals and other paper work turned in and on file to participate and get their equipment.

Milano football, spikers report to practice Aug. 1

MILANO—Milano head coach Craig Jentsch has announced that football two- a- days will start Monday, Aug. 1 from 7 a.m. until noon.

Equipment will be issued at that time. Athletes must have physicals to participate.

Lady Eagle volleyball practice will also start August 1.

“We will be practicing from 9 to 12 in the morning and then again from 4 to 6 in the evening,” says Coach Wendy King.

All girls planning to play must have a physical form completed by a physician before they can participate.

Junior high girls will have their first day of practice on the first day of school.

Thorndale players greet new coach on Aug. 1

THORNDALE— On Monday, August 1, all high school football players need to report at 7 a.m. at the field house for the first day of practice under new coach Brent Brevard.

All Junior High football players need to report at 7:30 a.m. on August 22 to receive equipment. Junior High practice times will be at 7 a.m. this year on Mondays and Tuesdays. Wednesday through Fridays practices will start at 7:30.

All incoming 7th, 9th, and 11th graders need a physical before your first day of practice.

Morning practice will be from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. followed by the freshman practicing at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Varsity and JV will practice from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Boys’ Cross Countr y practice will also begin on Monday, August 1 at 7 a.m. Runners report to the track and be dressed ready to run.

Runners who also play football should report to football practice. Runners who play football will have their first practice on Monday, August 22at 6:15 am.

Girls cross country will begin Aug 1 at 7 a.m. Girls should meet in the high school gym.

First annual alumni golf tournament set July 30

The Rockdale Country Club Mens Golf Association is sponsoring the first annual Tiger Golf Team Alumni Tournament.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at the Rockdale Country Club and all proceeds w ill go to the RHS golf team.

There w ill be a team draw party on Friday, July 29 at 7 p.m.

The format is a four-person scramble and the cost is $60 per person and includes cart, green fees and lunch.

It is open to anyone who played on the RHS golf team.

Registration for Gause soccer starts August 18

GAUSE—Registration for Gause soccer for boys and girls ages 4 thru 13 as of Sept. 1st begins August 18 at Gause school cafeteria from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Other dates include:

• August 25— 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

• August 29—6 p.m.-8p.m.

• Sept. 1—6 p.m.-8 p.m.

The cost is $40 per child (this includes jersey and socks).

It’s open to all students in Gause, Milano, Mumford, Hearne, Rockdale and Calvert school districts.

Three games will be played in Gause and the other three will be in Cameron.

First game will be on Sept. 24 with the last game on Oct. 29.

All games will be on Saturday mornings.
