Drug bust started with cigarette toss
A cigarette fLung out of a vehicle window, with scorched Milam County in the midst of a severe drouth, led to a major drug bust near Rockdale last week.
Ty son Tremay ne Carter, 35, of Longv iew, was charged w ith possession of 431 grams of cocaine after he was arrested by DPS State Trooper Erik Gaston on US 79 near the Alcoa turnoff. Full Story
City mulling new fire truck
At midweek, city council members are in the midst of a marathon four-night—Monday through Thursday—discussion of a new city budget.
Monday and Tuesday discussions were dominated by the need for a new fire truck after Fire Chief Herbie Vaughan told the council the age of the RVFD fleet will begin to affect fire insurance rates in upcoming years. Full Story
Jacob replaces Doss as Chamber president
Deedra Jacob, owner of Rockdale’s Little Tikes Day Care Center for the past four years, has been named the new president of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

Workers air conditioning the 75-year-old Rockdale Elementary gym stumbled onto yet another piece of town history last week when they uncovered “ ballot boxes” from a 1948 election.
