431 grams of cocaine nabbed by trooper

Drug bust started with cigarette toss


Carter Carter A cigarette flung out of a vehicle window, with scorched Milam County in the midst of a severe drouth, led to a major drug bust near Rockdale last week.

Tyson Tremayne Carter, 35, of Longv iew, was charged with possession of 431 grams of cocaine after he was arrested by DPS State Trooper Erik Gaston on US 79 near the Alcoa turnoff.

Carter was also charged with resisting arrest, search or seizure after a scuffle. DPS Sgt. Michael Nix and Trooper Ernest DelBosque also participated in the arrest.

Carter remains in the Milam County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $160,000 bond.

Nix said the incident began when Gaston observed a driver toss a cigarette from a vehicle window.

“There is, of course, a burn ban in effect and the area is extremely dry,” Nix said. “Trooper Gaston stopped the vehicle.”

Nix said a search ensued. “Nothing was found in the vehicle but the driver became nervous and fidgety and the trooper found the cocaine concealed on his body.”

Nix and DelBosque arrived at the scene and assisted Gaston in recovering the cocaine.

Carter was charged with manufacture/ delivery of a controlled substance (more than 400 grams).

The Alcoa turnoff (FM 1786) is located about five miles west of Rockdale near a roadside park.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
