Registration to start for fall soccer league
Registration for the Gause soccer league will open soon for boys and girls ages four through 13 (as of Sept. 1). Registrations will be held at the Gause School cafeteria 5-7 p.m. Aug. 18 and 6-8 p.m. Aug. 25, Aug. 29 and Sept. 1. Cost is $40 per child and includes jersey and socks. Full Story
Boynton, Wilde nab singles titles in ‘hot’ Open
Youth winners also crowned in brutal heat
Devin Boynton of Round Rock and Annie Wilde of Rockdale are the men’s and women’s singles champions from the 2011 Rockdale Open unreeled over the weekend at Veterans Memorial Park.
Boynton, a quicksilver retriever, f lashed incredible speed in winning the men’s final over Ken Esten Cooke, Rockdale native, now of Victoria, 7-6, 6-3. Full Story
97 Tigers show up for first day of football practice
Almost 100 young men showed up Monday morning for the first day of summer practice for Rockdale football. Up just slightly from last season, Miller said it is about what he and his coaching staff expected.

Tigers pencil in Abilene Wylie on schedule
Big Blue adds another home game in opener
While there was some doubt whether Rockdale was actually going to play on opening day, the Tigers have secured an opponent for zero week.
Athletic Director Jeff Miller has penciled in Abilene Wylie for the first game of the year, but the game will be played on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Tiger Field at 6 p.m., rather than the traditional Friday night. Full Story

Cost is $25 to the Rockdale Tiger Booster Club. Posters are available from 8 a.m. to noon at the RISD athletic office. Full Story
Alumni tourney raises $1,100 for RHS golf program
Twenty-six players helped raise $1,100 for the Rockdale High School golf program during Saturday’s first annual alumni golf tournament held at the Rockdale County Club. The event was sponsored by the club’s Mens Golf Association.
Organizer Allan Jones said hopes are to make it even more exciting and bigger and better next year. Full Story
