Assisted living facility now shut down at RMH

Directors of the Rockdale Hospital District met Monday and were told shutdown operations have been completed at Richards Memorial Hospital’s former assisted living wing.

Administrator Jeff Madison said the final resident left July 26 and assisted living administrator Gail Crawford has accepted employment elsewhere and accounting will be closed out this month.

Madison told directors a new family prac t it ioner, L ar issa O’Neal, will practice three days a week.

Board members tabled a proposal to share costs of a voting machine with the City of Rockdale and Rockdale ISD.

School trustees to talk beginning of school

Reports by principals on the beginning of school are on tap when Rockdale ISD trustees gather for their monthly session at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Central Administration Building.

First day of classes is Aug. 22.

Board members will also discuss a proposal to share costs of a voting machine with the City of Rockdale and Rockdale Hospital District.

Two draw sentences in 20th District Court

CA MERON— District cour t action during the past week was listed as follows by Prosecutor Kerry Spears:

• Robie Lee Lawhon, 19, Rockdale, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance (less than one gram), two years deferred adjudication probation, substance abuse evaluation/ treatment, drug education class, $4,000 fine, $140 restitution.

• Sherman Lee Sanchez, 29, Rockdale, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance (less than one gram), six-month state jail term.

La Escuelita group sets meeting for Saturday

The La Escuelita Organization will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday on the La Escuelita grounds, just east of Rockdale on US 79, according to Johnnie Diaz, spokesperson.

“It is a pot luck meal. Please bring a dish,” she said. “All interested persons are welcome. We are always looking for new members.”

Two funds set up for C. W. Coldiron family

Accounts have been set up at two local banks for the C.W. Coldiron family to help with the family’s expenses.

Coldiron, 31, died last week from a brain aneurism.

Those wanting to do so may donate to accounts set up at Rockdale Federal Credit Union or Citizens National Bank-Rockdale, spokesperson Kevin Payne said.

Planners slate Suicide Prevention Week event

The Milam County Suicide Prevention Council is working on ideas, plans and information for the upcoming Suicide Prevention Week campaign Sept. 4-10, spokesperson Gaye Bland said.

As part of the event an ASK Gatekeeper Training will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6 in the Rockdale High School library and on Thursday, Sept. 8 in the Cameron High School cafeteria.

Both programs will begin at 6 p.m. and will last about two hours. Light refreshments will be served.

Genealogy workshop set Aug. 20 at library

Professional genealogist Lynna Kay Shuffield will conduct a genealogy workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the city library.

Registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 12. Signup donation is $5 and lunch will be provided.

On Aug. 20, sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. with breaks for lunch and relaxation.

Renew brands, but not before August 31st

The Milam Count y Clerk’s Office will begin the process of renewals of brands, in accordance with the state Agriculture Code, according to Jodi Morgan, deputy county clerk.

Ranchers will have until Feb. 29 to renew registration, she said. On March 1, all brands that have not been renewed will become “open brands” for the general public. Any brand that is not renewed becomes “void” on March 1.

Rising Star ‘Gospel Explosion’ Aug. 27th

The annual Rising Star Baptist Church Gospel Explosion will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the junior-high commons.

Featured will be the church choir, soloists, praise dancers, mime dancers and more.

Admission is $10 per person, pre-sale or at the door, with children under 10 admitted free.

Proceeds go to the church building fund.

Monthly line flushing ahead on August 17th

Monthly flushing of Rockdale’s water lines will be Wednesday night, Aug. 17, according to City Manager Kelv in K nauf, who reminded residents to run cold water taps upon aristing the next morning.
