Thorndale ISD gets TTIP grant

Thorndale ISD

With the school year about to begin we have many exciting things happening at Thorndale ISD. Students are daring the heat to get ready to represent our community with pride. Band, volleyball, cross country and football are showing great determination in preparing for the upcoming year. Each campus is taking the necessary steps to be ready for the students on Aug. 22.

TISD is excited to announce that Thorndale High School has been selected as a TTIP Grant recepient. The TTIP Grant is a federal stimulus grant aimed at school improvement. The grant is guaranteed for two years with funding levels of close to one million a year with a possibility of year three. This is a wonderful opportunity for Thorndale High School as well as Thorndale Middle and Elementary schools to have extra funds to work on the goals of each campus.

The purpose of this program is to provide grants to Title I schools that demonstrate the greatest need for the funds and the strongest commitment to use the funds to provide adequate resources in order to raise substantially the achievement of their students.

With the grant funds, several positions will be added to our staff for the length of the grant to complete the specific measures tied to it, including but not limited to federal paperwork, afterschool programs, extensive staff development and the working hand-in-hand with current staff to reach specific goals set by each campus. The employees will on only be employed by the district for the length of the grant, unless previously employed by the district in another capacity, and paid entirely with grant funding. We will be posting these positions in the local paper, our website and using the internet to find the best candidates possible.

After recent headlines on the budget crisis in pubic education, it is refreshing to be able to bring positive news that will benefit the students of and the community of Thorndale. We will be sending out more information relating to the grant and how it will have an impact for the students at Thorndale ISD.
