Lady Tigers ready to bust loose

Team unity should boost team to successful season

Victoria Drake Victoria Drake Should the Rockdale Lady Tigers choose to pick a theme for the upcoming season, it most probably would be unity.

They are in this together.

With a cast of spirited veterans and an influx of talented newcomers, the Lady Tigers are poised to rise to the top of the volleyball ladder.

“I really expect great things from this team,” said Jason Williams, who begins his third season at the helm. “We are really gelling as a team and showing great team work and I expect us to come out on top because of that.

“Our ability to work together and communicate well and coordination of plays that we execute together well, that’s the key. They are going to have to remain mentally tough.”

Rockdale is coming of f an 8-23 season and just one Lady Tiger team has made a playoff appearance since 1999, but that doesn’t deter this current crop of spikers.

A dozen veterans return from last season, including Victoria Drake, Jill Young, Bailey Pannell, Lisa Vest, Marissa Mireles and Morgan Fischer.

Williams is excited over the potential of newcomers Morgan

Laughlin, Shelby Evan and Amanda Boyd—all sophomores.

“ The returners want it more this year,” Williams said, “and getting it inspired the newcomers to get after it. It’s neat to watch.”
