Fugitive from chase, crash draws 16-month jail terms
A 30-year-old Rockdale man drew a pair of 16-month state jail sentences last week in 20th District Court in connection with incidents earlier this year involving a chase and the crash of a patrol vehicle. Full Story
Traffic stop nets cocaine charge
A 25-year-old Rockdale man is facing a cocaine possession charge after a Thursday traffic stop.
Jamal Durell Williams was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana under two ounces, following the 2:51 p.m. traffic stop by Ofc. Tommy Shriver.
Williams remains in the county jail in lieu of bond totaling $43,000. Full Story
Burn ban violations reported
The Milam County Sheriff’s Depar tment continues to be called to possible burn ban violations with four reported during the past week.
Two calls were to the Thorndale area, both on Thursday.
Those called deputies to CR 458 at 5:45 p.m. and again at 7:08 p.m.
A burn ban violation was reported at 6: 24 p.m. Friday on County Road 112 near Buckholts. Full Story

Ex-Rockdale dentist enters guilty plea
A former Rockdale dentist, accused of not paying income taxes since 1995, has pleaded guilty to income tax evasion in federal district court and is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
Dr. John R. Rinn is being held until the sentencing, according to Mike Lemoine, special agent for the Internal Revenue Service’s San Antonio field office. Full Story
