Lady Tigers spikers find tough competition at Cove

McGregor betters Rock Tuesday night on road

Killeen Daily Herald/Steven Doll Nothing could better prepare the Rockdale Lady Tigers for their district ledger than participating in the second annual Copperas Cove Tournament, where some of the top teams in the state were present.

After Tuesday night’s loss to McGregor on the road, the Lady Tigers drop to 1-6 on the young season.

Leander Vandergrift defeated seventh ranked Gatesville for the title.

After pool play on Thursday, Rockdale Lady Tiger Varsity team was placed in the silver bracket.

Rockdale fell to Waco University 25-15, 25-11, led by Victoria Drake’s two kills and two aces.

Ashtyn Simank chipped in two kills and a block, Amanda Boyd three assists, Shelby Evans one block and Morgan Laughlin one dig.

The Lady Tigers dropped a hard fought match to Austin Hyde Park 25-14, 11-25, 26-24.

Dra ke reg istered 10 k ills, Marissa Mireles four aces and Evans three blocks.

In pool play, Rockdale fell to Johnson City 25-20, 25-22 and Copperras Cove 25-10, 25-5

Against Rockdale, Cove jumped out to a 6- 0 lead behind five Amy Rosenbuam aces. The Lady Dawgs then put Rockdale away in the finale with a 12-1 run.

Tuesday night

Rockdale dropped a match to McGregor 25-14, 16-25, 15-15, 19-25, 16-14.

Drake and Boyd pounded out 12 kills apiece, w ith Morgan Fischer and Bailey Pannell adding 12 and 10 digs respectively.

Drake also logged seven aces with Evans posting five blocks.

Junior varsity

The ju n ior va r sit y fel l to McGregor 26 - 24, 25-17 w ith Haley Wright serving up five points and Emily McCoy four.

In the Copperas Cove Tournament, the JV fell to host Copperas Cove 25-19, 25-14 and Gatesville 25-21, 25-19.

Frosh

Led by Kourtney Roddam’s six service points the freshmen knocked off McGregor 25-14, 25-22. After pool play at the Copperas Cove Tournament, the freshmen were placed in the silver bracket where they claimed consolation honors.

They fell to Killeen Shoemaker 25-19, 25-18, 25-18, defeated Troy 25-23, 16-25, 25-8 and then dropped Waco 26-24, 25-19 for consolation.

In t he tour nament, Sara h Pruett tallied 18 service points, Kalli Hicks 9, Lexis Garcia 7, Bethany Miller 7 and Maxie Vann 4.
